"A BEAUTIFUL Day in the Neighborhood!"
Here's the view from our bedroom window this morning. Those beautiful fall colors are a result of our summer-long drought. We did have frost last night, which is the reason I'm blogging and not outside, painting the fascia boards of the shed in the picture. The sun just hit our roofs and the frost is pouring off our buildings.
Yesterday, after I got home from work, L and I installed the corner trim on the shed. We then measured and cut the door and bottom trim for the shed. Z managed to get the first coat of paint on all 12 pieces of trim, while L and I started prepping the house for painting. We're hoping that, today, the second coat of paint will dry in time for us to hang the rest of the trim.
The shed trim is not purely for aesthetics. If it was, we'd wait until next year to install it. We had some carpenter ant damage that we're covering with the trim. The trim will reinforce the weak areas, so we don't have to completely re-sheet the shed. We were lucky to catch the infestation in time!
I only have ONE MORE WALL of grooves on the garage to paint. Then the garage will be totally painted! Unfortunately, it's the largest wall.
In another hour, it should be warm and dry enough to tackle another day of painting, scrubbing, sanding, caulking.....

Wow, your level of activity puts me to shame. Of course, I live in an apartment. I don't feel much ownership or incentive to do more than keeping it reasonably clean. :-P
Wow...I got up this morning and thought that was pretty good work. NOw I feel like I should actually do something. Thanks a lot...
The shed looks awesome. I like that color. (or should that be colour? heehee)
Notta, there's days that renting sounds real good to us. ;)
Sorry Shawn; didn't mean to put a guilt trip on you. Getting out of bed is half the battle most days. ;)
SME, you should see it tonight, after we got the rest of the trim up. It's the same "colour" as the garage, but it looks totally different on the shed, doesn't it?
It does. Brightens it up a lot.
SME's right, it does look awesome!! You folks did a terrific job. FROST already???? Carpenter ants? You just got the thing up!!! Hope that the stupid ants are gone for good.
Holy crow!!
its coming on fall here too - seems early, maybe its not - this is one thing the south doesn't display, wild wonderful zowzy fall colors - only bad thing, winter comes behind. jees - gal, you deserve a vacation at a spa on the beach somewhere balmy before winter sets in to recuperate from working like a wildwoman.
Frost... I might have forgotten what that is/feels like. ;)
I am in awe of your energy! Mine got up and left awhile back and hasn't been seen since. *sigh*
The colours are the main reason I love fall. We don't get as much change here because we have more coniferous trees, and the one thing I miss about O-town is the amazing colour changes.
ND, the shed is 20 yrs old. The carpenter ants invaded 2 yrs ago. The garage is bug free...so far.
Diana, I'll settle for a chore-free, cozy winter weekend. ;)
Euro, with the truck in the garage, I don't have to worry about scraping frost off the windshield. Yeeeehawww!!
VV, we're forcing ourselves every step of the way. We're sick to death of paint, caulk, and LADDERS!!
WC, it's so dry here that the trees have been changing for a few weeks now. We won't have our usual frost-induced fall color. :(
you guys are the DIY gurus and heroes of our time! You should apply for that new HGTV show called "Stud Finder". They're looking for a new TV personality that tackles big projects around the house.
Sadie Lou....that's a home improvement show????
Damn.
You had a frost already? Wow!
Man, you guys sure keep busy.
Beautiful! Until the snow starts...
Sadie, we're not beautiful enough for TV. ;)
ND, that's the BEST kind of stud to find...one that tackles jobs around the house!
Squirl, we usually have at least one snow before the 2nd week of October.
Like you and Ichabod aren't keeping busy too?!
Miranda, we actually enjoy winter, as long as there's no ice storms and a "normal" amount of snow.
Wow, I take the summer off to work on the cottage, and I have still not done as much as you and your crew!! AHHHEMMM someone was supposed to come visit this summer!?! Last call for this year will be the weekend after the CANADIAN Thanksgiving
Nice. I actually can't wait until we ahve our own place that I can do improvements on. I know, be careful what I wish for...
Oooh, love your tree backdrop! We need a shed. Isn't it nice when the kids can actually help??
Davey, so THAT'S where you've been. Trust me, we would've had a LOT more fun playing with Glorae and Benson!
Laura, there's times when I think we're nuts for doing all this. Then we step back and admire our work. Yup, we're NUTS!
Candace, we had to cut back quite a bit of our "tree backdrop" this summer. It tends to invade the yard rather quickly.
It's great that Z's old enough, (and willing) to work unsupervised. He's been a terrific "slave" this summer. ;)
Wait? You guys have a normal amount of snow? We never had a normal! This is an outrage ;).
Miranda, every 5 yrs or so, we get a "normal" amount. ;)
Lately we've been below normal. I hate the years that we get over 100 inches. :(
