A Black and White Day

Shortly after we arrived at the cabin, last Saturday afternoon, it began to rain. It continued to rain most of the night, which made for a slippery walk to the outhouse. Sunday morning, New Year's Eve, it started to snow. We got about 2 inches of wet, heavy snow, which stuck to the trees beautifully. It was one of those gray, black and white days, where any splash of color becomes an anomaly. L and I spent the afternoon outside, taking pictures.

Sunday night it cleared off, allowing the full moon to illuminate the snow shrouded trees in a magnificent blue glow. The moon was so bright that it created shadows! Unfortunately, we couldn't capture this night beauty in a picture. Our memories will have to suffice.

Memories, pictures, and videos will soon be all we have left of the cabin. My parents are in the process of selling it to a group from Bemidji. L and I would've loved to keep it in the family, but this additional asset would have put us over our $20,000 asset limit for MNCARE. It was a heartbreaking choice, but we opted to keep our health insurance.

L is whining that I didn't give him credit for the pictures he took. He took the picture on my "Previews" post. He's also responsible for the 4th picture down on this post, and the red twig picture.
VV, I may be needing some legal counsel here. heehee

I dont blame you there. J is thinking about dropping his insurance through work and finding something cheaper for the family. I had a post from some Mark and cant view his profile. this has happened with some Ann Marie also. I have no idea if these are blog things you have told me about in the past or people just not enabling there profiles. Well anyway beautful pictures. We are throwing K a b=day party next saturday when she turns six and I will post pix of the party for every one on monday. Have a wonderful weekend. N.

Tweets, some people that comment don't have a blog. They just got identities so they can comment.

Those pictures are gorgeous! I love the way you described the moon making shadows as it was so bright. It's also nice that you were able to take the time off to enjoy yourselves.

Sorry you have to lose the cabin, but I'll bet you have many memories to keep you going from it.

Thanks Squirl! One of my favorite songs is Dancing in the Moonlight. It always reminds me of the full moon at the cabin.
I have 38 yrs of memories of the cabin. That'll do, I guess.

Beautiful! Looks like the perfect final weekend. I'd like to post some of my cabin pics, too, but I need to get the scanner hooked up to the new PC first.

I love 'em!!! I also love those snows where the white stuff just clings to the branchs in such a way that you notice every single one. It's like you can see every individual piece to a puzzle and just know how it fits into the finished composition.

That's a bummer about having to sell the cabin, but, as they say, you gotta do what you gotta do. Is there no way to sell the cabin to a family that will cherish it as much as your family does? I didn't google Bemidji, but it sounds like a group that's more interested in developing the area (tons of those here in MT -- boo hiss!)?!

SME, the full moon really capped it off! You KNOW how I love the full moon out there.
That's the bugger of a new computer, or rebuild; all the little stuff that needs to be installed. Dad just got Print Artist in yesterday so I could print some of these.

Courtney, I know! L and I spent all afternoon outside, just marveling at all the patterns of the branches.
The guys that are buying the cabin will probably only use it for deer hunting. The cabin is on land leased from the county, so they can't develop it. Besides, we have to travel through 2 miles of swamp to get to the sand ridge the cabin is built on.

Your pictures make me want to be there , You and your family have been blessed with the cabin over the years and will cherish the memories always. One of the most peaceful places I've been to in my life, found in northern Minnesota.(gods country) You can't buy it with all the gold in the world, the good times had there!

SS, I'm grateful that you got to go out there once, especially before they cut the big pines. I only wish that the kids could've gone out there.
Love ya!

Wow, it looks beautiful and peaceful. Kudos to the photograper they are beautiful pictures.

Gardenia, it IS magical! It only got down to +22F, so the trek to the outhouse wasn't bad.

Vest, MNCARE is a group health plan for uninsured Minnesotans. We PAY for it, with monthly premiums and copays!!
MNCARE has been operating in the black since its inception...UNTIL Gov Pawlenty diverted its funds to pay for his pet projects. This drastically reduced the number of people who could be on the program. Now, they're basing participation on income and ASSETS.

Maybe YOU should take the time to enjoy the beauty of a full moon. It soothes your soul!

Angelique, L and I BOTH thank you for the kudos. ;)

Wow! I love those pix! But if I'm going to represent you in a legal dispute as to ownership, I think I'll need originals of the photos, say 5 x 7 and/or 8 x 10, matted and framed, and once I've hung them, er um, examined them in my office, I'll get back to you on the cost of my retainer. ;-)

VV, SHOOT, I thought copies of the pictures would be your retainer. ;)

Ownership could get tricky. The pix are on the card that L bought, for the camera(that we both use) I bought him for his birthday.

LOL.. That is funny. J bought me my digital camer for my b-day last year and he doesnt touch it. I complain because he doent let the pix focus before he snaps the shot so my pix turn out blurry. lol.. Well any way i was laughing at the legal matter here. that was funny. I thought that was Vest that made those comments but wasnt sure.

Tweets, I was wondering why some of your pics come out fuzzy; now I know. Tell J to leave the camera alone, or have more patience. Sheesh, you'd think a chess player would be more patient. ;)
Yeah, those comments came from Vest's IP and computer. If he keeps it up, I'll have to disable anonymous comments again. :(

Tweets, I think it's arthritis. It's been bothering me for awhile. Yesterday it swelled so much that I couldn't put my weight on it. :(

VV, I think so. But if we don't get divorced, I should be OK...right? ;)
