The Other Side of the Coin
My previous post got me to thinking about other "hot" musicians from the '70s. Peter Frampton immediately came to mind. The album cover above is from the late '70s.
THIS is how Peter Frampton looks today. Do the words "rode hard and put away wet" come to mind while viewing this photo? In addition, Frampton is a year younger than Rick Springfield.

Scary isn't it? Frampton was definitely cute back then but a tad scrawny. Wasn't into Springfield much. It's actually kind of reassuring that even the famous can age gracelessly like the rest of us. Face it - they might have thought the us back then pretty hot too - but now?
Man...I just realized I haven't subscribed to your blog on my Google Reader feed reader!!!!!!!!!! I thought I had my whole blogroll on there obviously I'm missing some...Yours isn't the only one so don't take it personally, OK?
Who is Peter Frampton? ;)
Frankly, he looks better now...those ruffles and hair-frizz did nothing for him!
His guitar has not 2, but 3 humbuckers.
Wow. I missed out on all the real good looking guys that didnt do makeup and such. Us that are in our 30's got brought up with the freaks. The make up and such. The nails.. LOL.. This dude is good looking.. LOL.. Never tell Jeff I said that please..
LOL! I am much more relating to the "Now" version. I agree with sme - there is just something about a man in ruffles and frizzy hair that doesn't do a thing for me - never did - do have to admit he was purty though.
At least he has enough energy to get out of bed and play a guitar. Aww, probably lays in bed when he's not playing a guitar.
Jeannie, that IS reassuring! L, who is 59, enjoyed the Frampton pictures much more than the Springfield pictures. ;)
WC, no prob!
Frampton was a 3-hit-wonder back in the mid '70s.
SME, I'll bet his hair is easier to take care of now. ;)
ZS, OK, I had to look that one up...interesting L played accoustic so I'm not too familiar with electric guitars. Good eye!
Frampton was famous for his use of the "Talkbox".
Tweets, tell Jeff there's nothing wrong with LOOKING! We all do it, even us old folks. ;)
Gardenia, he never did anything for me either. I actually knew more guys than girls that liked his music.
Heh heh heh you never saw my 70s pic did you, Tshsmom?
Let's say that PF's road may look familiar (tho from different causes)!!!
Rode hard and put away wet...made me laugh out loud for that is what I was thinking as I looked at the pictures.
I remember P.F.
You're having quite a trip down Memory Lane, aren't you, Tshs. :D
Yeah, Rick Springfield's looks held up a lot better than Frampton's.
:-)
Bridg, LOL, same here! Gravity has NOT been my friend. ;)
Cherie, I did this post to make L feel better about not aging as gracefully as Rick Springfield.
Frampton is 2 yrs younger than L, and looks 20 yrs older. ;)
Squirl, so did his music career! ;)
Tshsmom, have you seen his (Frampton's) insurance commercial? It's a scream. At one point, he sings 'I wanted to pull my hair out'! At least he can laugh at himself, which is cool.
Bridg, I haven't seen that commercial. I'll have to watch out for it.
What I like about today's Frampton is that he seems to have a total lack of vanity. I LIKE that!
Dang it. I left a long comment about 3 humbuckers vs 2 and blogger lost it. Oh well. I hope you learned all about humbuckers from your research.
Bummer!
Yeah, I THINK I get it. Frampton plays lead, while Springfield plays rhythm, so I think I see the advantage for Frampton to have 3.
L's guitar needs to be re-fretted, as the strings buzz now. Unfortunately, L can't hear well enough to play anymore, so we probably won't spend the money on his guitar. :(
That sucks. I'm snooty enough now that when the guitar starts to buzz, I sell it and pick up another one. It's hard to find a guitar restorer that's any good and I don't know a thing about being a guitar tech.
That's too bad he doesn't play any more. As much as I love guns and shooting, I'd rather lose my sight than my hearing. I think I like music above all else.
I have a confession... I owned not ONE rock star poster in all my growing up days. Ok, somehow that sentence implies that I own some now, so I would like to state that our bedroom walls are covered with posters of Rick Springfield, David Cassidy and Donny Osmond.
(Of course I am kidding. Does my husband look like he would tolerate such nonsense?)
I was an anti-bandwagon-jumper-onner, even at an early age, I guess. But now that I'm the mellow middle-aged mama that I am, I agree, Rick Springfield was and is a cutie.
But I still never wished that I was Jesse's girl so that he'd want me.
;-)
Pam, LOL! I didn't have any of those posters either. I did have movie posters, and beautiful nature posters with inspirational quotes on them.
IMO, Frampton is better than Springfield...I mean musically. I am not qualified to comment on male sexiness.
I wonder who's next - Rod Stewart, Bowie, Gary Glitter... can't wait :-)
I've learned some of us age well and some do not. A lot has to do with the wear and tear you put on your body in your younger years, and a lot has to do with luck in the gene pool.
Rock n roll can do that to a person :)
Daughter just sent me a myspace message with a group of heavy metal kids that are making their first album - local boys - they look like little kids to me - adorable - in fact, the one works in my stylist's salon when he's not on the road - he's where I got my inspired striped hair - I will have to see if I can get the U Tube up for people to see....I think these kids are good, but what do I know about heavy metal? I only know how to make small pieces of it into jewelry. :)
Yeah, I saw Frampton on a Geico commercial and was shocked at how much he's aged. A lot of it is that he just doesn't have the head of hair he once did.
