Spring Fever

I took this picture of our grill on the first day of spring. This view still hasn't changed much. We've had a few warm days, but they're usually followed by cold, snowy days. We haven't had steak since October. I'm really, really craving a nice grilled steak! I've already bought a lovely package of steaks that taunts me every time I open the freezer. I also bought a couple of slabs of salmon during the Lenten fish sales. I'm ready for spring activities, but all I can do is watch the snow s-l-o-w-l-y recede.

In the meantime, my brain has been working overtime trying to re-organize our schedule to fit our upcoming warm weather projects.

Last week Z and I went to the optometrist for much needed new glasses. On Friday I went to the doctor to have the 10-yr-old wart removed from the ball of my foot. I've been trying, all week, to contact Z's driver's training instructor to set up a time for his 6 hrs of behind the wheel training. L will, hopefully, have cataract surgery in April. Now, I just need to make a vet appointment for Hairry to start his heartworm meds for the summer.

Designs for CD/DVD storage, new desks for Z's computer and ours, and a workbench for the garage have been swirling around in my overcrowded brain. We hope that we can build these items before our contractor starts re-roofing our house.

Then, we'll have the rest of the summer to landscape our back yard and repair the electrical trench damage in the front yard. We'd also LOVE to fence the corner of our back yard to block out the view of our neighbor's junk.

Ideas are pouring from my head non-stop. WHEN will the weather warm up enough to put my thoughts into action?!

Our barbq is lonely too even though it's only about 5 steps out the door - those 5 steps are a foot deep in snow too.

However, slow is probably better for the melting to cut down on flooding - not that our house is in danger but I feel for others in low spots and also think about insurance rates

Jeannie, I agree! I like spring better when it freezes every night. It cuts down on all the slop. I just wish it would quit adding more snow.

Work on a house. It's just never done. *sigh*

Not to make you feel bad, but we are going to have burgers on the grill tonight... We still have snow on the deck where the grill is, but only a few inches. Tomorrow we're supposed to get hammered with another 6-plus-inch snowstorm, which is unfathomable today since the sun is out and it's almost 50 degrees. We must make the most of this rare spring day!

The beat goes on....

You have a neighbor who's junk needs hiding, too, hey. We're in the same predicament. Kind of infuriating. All the beauty we try to create can't eliminate the uglies - but like you, we'll find a way to hide it.

Sounds like the sap is running in all of you even if the trees are a bit behind. You'll get there.

Your photo tells all.

Thankfully we've got neatnick neighbors wherever we don't have trees & critters. The top of our grill just re-appeared but, we too, are due for a heavy-ish snow in the next few days. Busy weekend for lotsa folks here as Monday is the last day it's legal to drive onto the ice to remove ice-fishing shacks. Open-water fishing starts 4/1, if you can find any and stand the coolish temps:):):)

Your bbq looks so lonely out there in the snow. I've cooked a few steaks in my trusty cast-iron pan, and they were delicious, but I think grilled would be better. Soon, perhaps.

Here in Toronto, I've managed to bbq two or three times. Yesterday I slow-smoked a brisket. It was cold out, but not rainy, so I managed.

This weather has been crazy. We're getting pouring rain today but we might get snow tomorrow. Good luck on getting rid of yours.

Lol man your brain's busy, Sis!! My barbecue never left the room I built it in (I don't want to get it dirty or rusty).

Now I really really really want to eat beef too. That almost never happens!!!

Sonja, you got that right!

Pam, I hope you got to enjoy your burgers before the snow fell again. We didn't get any more snow. ;)

Cherie, the junk has occasionally crossed the line into our yard. With a fence, the junk will stay on HIS side. :(

Mike, ice shacks have to be off by March 31st here too. Driving is still allowed, so there's still plenty of time for idiots to go through the ice. Our open water fishing doesn't open until May.

ZF, yeah, you just can't beat that smoky goodness!

Tweets, pretty soon I'll be griping about the heat! ;)

Mister A, that sound fabulous. I'll be right over. ;)

Squirl, I hope your plants don't freeze!

Bridg, c'mon over in May! Then I'll have L grill a steak for you. ;)

Oh, you are so like me with lists - and the ideas - boom, boom, boom, boom, .........only "H" gets mad and hides in the bedroom. Sigh!

My grill died when I was out of state - i'm shopping for one now - they are really handy for hurricane aftermaths and no electricity. Beside stuff just tastes so blasted good!

I have started planting barrier bushes on one side because of the horrible weed lot next to us - the other neighbor is great, he comes over and meticulously trims - I do love crisp edges. He also poisoned dollar weed on his side of house - that's what I am doing scooting around the flower bed on my butt - pulling the insidious underground roots out......ah, aren't we glad spring is springing......

Okay, so I won't tell you the temps here, or how many times we've grilled, or gone to the beach. But soon, I hope, I will be doing some posts on all the crap we've been doing around the house, new brick steps, concrete walkway, ripping out trees, bushes, ivy in half our side yard, finally finished painting the office, heading a mile a minute back into the political fray, been a local scandal in the newspaper for daring to challenge our corrupt Mayor. Yep, never a dull moment and too exhausted to post anything just yet. Oh and there have been some fun things, more progressive dinners, also filmed a friend blowing glass and making a goblet. So much to catch up on. *sigh* Well, I hope Spring comes for you very soon. I need to read about someone else getting busy with projects besides me. Oh, and we have our first out of town guests for the season. Life is busy!

Bridg, ANY TIME! ;)

Gardenia, LOL, motivating my guys is the hardest part of our projects! Once they get started, they work like the energizer bunny. so that's a good thing.
We started out by planting a hedge when we moved here. Between his dead trees falling into our hedge, and his backing his 18 wheeler through our hedge, there's not enough hedge left to block out the mess. :(

VV, I definitely want to see pictures of ALL of that!! I still have to take the time to figure out how to get my videos on the computer.

Did you just get hammered over the weekend??? Um, I mean with snow. We hear some folks got over 2 feet up north! For the moment, our yard is snow free. Knock on wood!

Wow. That reminds me why we left the Midwest.

I need new glasses. My wife says mine look dumb. As for the wart, good riddance. Warts suck. Never had one, but know plenty of people who do.

Hopefully L's surgery goes well.

The weather here is perfect. But then again, I just paid almost $2500 in state taxes, so I'm not liking California either. :(

Gardenia, not even CLOSE! :(

SME, I'm AMAZED that you finally wore shorts! Way to go!!

Pam, we only got 6 inches from that storm. Just south of here they got 2-3 ft of snow. That gives me something to be grateful for.

Jay, it's been a LONG, old-fashioned winter, hasn't it?

Tweets, it's not nice to brag! ;)

ZS, I was able to get the same frames I have now. They look fine and are super comfortable, so I was happy.

Tweets, that makes me feel better. I see that you guys got those awful winds too. :(
