The Final Screw!

That post title sounds a bit like a porno flick, doesn't it?
The picture is of L putting the final screw in the garage ceiling! Yeehaw!

We had 9 pieces of OSB to hang yesterday. The first 5 pieces and the final piece hung like a charm. The middle 3 pieces were a NIGHTMARE! All 3 pieces needed to be trimmed, ever so slightly, to fit properly. It took us 2 hours to hang 6 pieces, and 3 hours to hang the problem pieces.

That 3 hours also counts the disaster we had when L knocked MY drill-driver off the ladder, onto the concrete floor....not a pretty sight! We have 3 drill-drivers and, of course, the one that broke is the only driver we have with an extra battery.

THEN the table saw quit working properly. This turned out to be a dull blade. Sooooo, we trimmed the final pieces with the jigsaw. Very time consuming.

Today went much better. We went to Menards to buy our final 10 sheets of OSB for the walls, AND a new blade for the table saw. Then we cut and hung 4 wall sheets. The walls are now, officially, half completed! Next weekend we SHOULD be able to complete the walls.

Okay, what's OSB? I thought I could figure it out by context, but, erm... I can't.

Gardenia, today got WORSE! :(

Tweets, yeah, he's aging pretty well for an old fart. ;)

Courtney, oriented strand board. They used to call it chipboard. Sorta like sheetrock is now drywall. ;)

Jay, we even did a little dance after that last screw!

Thanks Bridg! We're exhausted too, but it's not about the garage this time. :(

VV, there are times that I feel like we're on a QUEST! :(
I took more pictures, but the ceiling lights kept the flash from kicking in, and they were all fuzzy. I'll try again with the lights off.

Hammer, we got a really good deal on that driver. I'm hoping for another good sale. :(

Way to go! It must feel great to be finished, especially with those end-of-the-job glitches.

What's next?

Kidding...

YAY!!! I can totally relate to your happiness!! I'm doing a little dance for you out here. Isn't it such a wonderful relief to get that last screw in! To be done with it. And the satisfaction....do you find yourselves just standing there, looking at it, with kinda dumb smiles on your faces??

We got the stained shingles up on the gable this weekend. Whew. Most had to be custom trimmed to fit up against the sloping edges. Took for.ever. But it's done. And the neighbors stopped and commented on how beautiful it is, and how much they like it. Neighbors who never normally say boo. Weird. But gratifying.

So, yeah, we are doing the stopping, staring, dumb smiling at it whenever we walk past.

SO NICE TO BE DONE!

Now, on to the interior ---wiring is first. Yippee!

So, once the walls are up for you, is that it? Will you be settled in and done for the winter, as far as home-improvement goes?

Pam, you want the short list, or the long-range list? ;)

Courtney, if they'd stop changing the names of all these products, life would be a lot easier. ;)

Cherie, that's sooooo funny!! That's exactly what we do when we finish a project. I've never admitted this before, because I thought everyone would think we were weirder than we are. ;)
We still catch ourselves admiring our handiwork in our bedroom and living room that we completed 2 years ago. It takes so little to entertain us.

Menards quit carrying 1/4" OSB, so we had to finish the ceiling with 1/4" luan plywood. It looks a bit weird right now, but L says we'll never notice it once we quit staring at and admiring the ceiling. Like L says: "It's a garage ceiling. It doesn't have to be beautiful to be functional!"

I LOVE the look of wood shingles!! We've even considered doing one of our living room walls in wood shingles. I'm anxiously awaiting pictures of your projects!!

After we complete the walls, we have to build a new snow cover for our air conditioning unit. We'd hoped to have time to build a workbench this year, but that will have to wait 'til spring.

Yes it does.

Oh, and I saw an ad for Menards. So I guess we do have them out here. I just don't know where.

And breaking tools sucks. :(

nothing like a little building hell....we'll be in for it in the spring!

When ya'll get done throwing your tools around, would it be possible for you to slip down here and finish off our guest apartment?

You are the woman I needed to visit tonight. I had a heated discussion with a hardware store guy about "Gyp rock" - have you ever heard that term used before? That's what we called sheetrock where I was from. But maybe It was just me?

Congrats ZS! You're the only one to comment on my "kinky" title. ;)
Did your Menards ad have the annoying announcer that yells?

Mr A, heehee, looks like we'll be trading places next summer. WE want to do some landscaping. ;)

Ryan, we're working with hammers now. They don't break as easy. ;)
Gyp-rock makes more sense than "drywall", as gypsum is a component in sheetrock, but I hadn't heard that term before. Sorry.

See, this is why I don't do home repairs. :-P Nothing ever goes the way you plan and it ends up being a big headache. But I'm glad you guys stuck with it. :-)

Notta, you're right! Nothing ever goes totally according to plan. :(
The only thing that keeps us on task is that we work cheaper than anyone else.

ZS, you actually expect me to think?!
I'll get on it when my head clears. ;)

SME, somebody keeps moving the end!
