It's the Simple Things...
Late yesterday afternoon, L and I were having a heart-to-heart discussion at the kitchen table. L suddenly pointed at the window:"Quick! Look at the window!"
The moisture on our sun-warmed, south facing storm window had just reached the magical temperature to form a beautiful fan of frost. We sat in awe for the 5 seconds it took for our window to spiderweb into a work of art.
We have been privileged to witness this phenomenon several times, and it still takes our breath away.

That's truly beautiful. Your post reminds me of my recent hoarfrost experience: I think that's something I'm only going to witness a couple of times in my life...I'd never seen anything like it before and it had such a magical, mystical quality to it...
I haven't seen frosted windows since I was a kid. I think it means you need new windows and are losing a lot of heat to outside. But it certainly is beautiful.
I'm not a fan of winter and cold weather but frost is so gorgeous. Glad you got pictures.
When I was a kid that used to happen from time to time on one of the windows at our house. Beautiful.
Thanks for sharing this magical moment, Tshs!
Your Jack Frost looks likes intricate lace. Just gorgeous. I've never seen it happen before my eyes but have seen lesser doses on windows. It always causes me to stop and inspect with awe.
Isnt that awsome when that happens?? Hope all is well.. Talk to you soon. N..
VERY NEAT!! In fact my car windows looked like that this morning in 3 degree temp.!! Brrrrrrrrrr
WC, we live .5 mile from river rapids, which stay open all year. We get a lot of hoarfrost on subzero days. It's one of the things that makes cold days bearable. It IS the simple things, isn't it?
Jeannie, we have 6 inch walls in our house, so we have room to have a storm window in addition to our double-paned, energy efficient windows. The frost forms on the outside of the storm window, so we get the best of both worlds-beautiful frost and efficient windows. ;)
Squirl, I have to look for the beauty to survive the cold days. :p
Mr A, the patterns vary daily. ;)
Cherie, watching it form is pure magic!
Tweets, all's well here.
Maeve, somehow frost just doesn't seem as pretty on a car window, does it?
Oh cool! I've seen that before too. Normally it's on the windshield when I'm driving. It's amazing to watch.
VV, LOL, watching frost form on the windshield can be rather hazardous. I'm usually cussing the frost in those circumstances. ;)
Gorgeous! I wish we'd get this on our window, instead of just scary-looking icicles. Jack Frost doesn't like me, I guess.
Nature did this beautiful glass etching just for you! Thanks for sharing - yes, it did look like a mystical appearance from another world parallel to ours perhaps
Okay mediator, we might need your skills, it's getting deep over at my blog.
Beautiful! It's amazing what Ma Nature can do when she has a mind to.
Ditto-what Chico the Wonder Dog said!
SME, Jack Frost LOVES us this winter. :( I think you need exterior storm windows to get this effect.
Gardenia, wouldn't it be great if we could duplicate this pattern onto glassware?
VV, I did my best! I think I talked M UP from guppies anyway. *giggle*
CA, we're often too blinded by the trials this weather has given us to see the beauty that accompanies the trials. The beauty lightens our spirits considerably! ;)
Gorgeous. Thanks for posting that, Tshsmom.
Wow. That is pretty cool.
On a different note, Favre will be your starting QB in '09. The Jets will cut him and you guys will immediately sign him. That's my outlandish prediction for '09.
Cool shots.
