Camping Out at Home

Here's a picture of our current fridge. Why do I feel like we've been camping all week? Let's see, maybe it's because we lived without a furnace for 2 days and the fridge for 4 days.

The repairman came this morning and declared that the problem was in the "sealed system". So I got to go refrigerator shopping this afternoon. This activity really doesn't take very long, as we only have 2 places in town that sell appliances-Sears and Menards. There were only 3-18 cu ft models to choose from. One of them was $900, so that narrowed my choice to 2. I was ecstatic to find evaporator coils on the back of the model I chose! The salesman said that very few refrigerators are made with "sealed systems" now. Gee, I wonder why?

Delivery is set for 1:30 tomorrow afternoon, so today we get to move the furniture around to make a path for the new fridge. Tomorrow we'll need to remove 3 doors to squeeze a 30 inch fridge through a 32 inch door. The good news is that they're taking the old fridge with them AND we get a rebate for the whole delivery fee. YES!

Tomorrow night I'll be able to cook dinner without running out to the front porch umpteen times.

OMG, well, at least you're able to make do for the time being, but I feel for you guys. Hang in there.

Woo-hoo! Although I'm sorry you had to fork out for a new fridge, I'm a bit jealous - I love new appliances!

OMG is right! Tell that Gremlin to get the hell out! You don't need anymore of this crap. I'm so sorry.

I'm guessing you'll be very glad to be done with this "camping" experience.

Yay! But at least you have a closed in porch - we've only got an open deck - which serves as extra fridge space at Christmas.

Hope the new fridge is the best ever.

Oh man...that doesn't seem like a lot of fun at all! Guess it's good to get back to civilization though.

Thanks Laura! We always seem to find a way to make do. ;)

WC, I love getting new appliances too, but that's because we're upgrading. This time we actually had to downgrade a bit. But like Z said: "You know what I like the most about this fridge? It's cold!"

VV, tomorrow is Friday the 13th...I can't wait...

Squirl, camping just isn't as much fun at home. :(

Jeannie, this week the temp has been perfect for keeping food on the porch. It isn't cold enough to freeze, so we haven't had to keep bringing the food inside and back out again. I guess we lucked out with one thing.
I'll be happy if this fridge lasts 10 yrs or more.

Tweets, yeah, we don't have many shopping choices, do we?

OMG, IT'S SHAWN!!!
Does that mean we have to act civilized? *giggle*

Our new oven is in. Funny how everything I craved needed an oven this week. How spoiled am I? It's nothing compared to what you guys are going through. Fridge-less is annoying. Been there.

Has anyone strung that Gremlin up, yet?

A furnace I could live without by hiding under warm blankets, but could not live without a refrigerator to hide uneaten food in......

new appliances are cool - just hate the payments - I'm afraid our icemaker crashed - ice is a must!

No you dont unless you want to travel for 3 hours to get to the nearest bigger city to have the choices..

Cherie, the gremlin is still lurking about, but he's losing power. He's gotta be exhausted by now! ;)

Gardenia, LOL, our climates are reversed in that regard, aren't they?

This is the first time that I've HATED getting a new appliance. I hate the way this fridge is arranged. The shelf spacing is just plain STUPID! :(
The only major problems we've ever had with our house have involved water leaks. I refuse to tempt fate with an icemaker! I just make ice with my old fashioned ice cube trays.

Tweets, they won't deliver from 3 hrs away either. Our refrigerator lifting days are long past.

Bridg, hopefully this "old-fashioned" technology will last longer than 5 yrs!
