2 Snows Down; 1 to Go

Local legend states that we will have 3 measurable snows after the seagulls return for the summer. The seagulls are ALWAYS here by March 17th. This year they arrived on the 14th. We've had 2 snows, totaling 4 inches, since their return.

Unfortunately, we often have more than 3 snows, after the gulls' return. Personally, I'm voting for some April showers, instead of snow, to alleviate our drought conditions. I'll let you know how that works out for me.

I haven't been online much this week. We've had major problems with spyware and had to rebuild the computer TWICE! BASTARDS!! After the 2nd rebuild, Z suggested installing Firefox as our web browser. He insists that there are very few spyware programs written for Firefox. So far we're spyware free. Time will tell.

Situations at my workplace keep going from bad to worse. We just hired our 3rd morning dishwasher in 4 months. The first dishwasher is now on Social Security Disability(she knows how to play the system). The second one left town(and her husband and 18 month old son), and hasn't been seen since. Our current dishwasher seems like a great worker. Unfortunately, she's also 3 months pregnant. We realize that not everyone works until the day before their baby is born, like I did. So we'll wait and see if this dishwasher makes it through the summer.

We haven't had any better luck with waitresses. We lost our Mon-Wed, afternoon waitress, to hypochondria, last fall. We hired a replacement that quit showing up after 3 days. Our Thurs-Fri & every other Saturday waitress decided to take a 6-week vacation in Mexico this winter. Two weeks after her return, she wound up in the hospital for a week. Fortunately, "Brat"(from my 8/16/06 post) quit her job at Menards and saved the day for us. Brat is a senior in high school, so she can't get to work before 4 p.m. The rest of us have been filling in from 1-4p.m. as needed. Brat is also working every other Saturday, which is a huge relief for me. I've had to work 6 days straight most of the winter!

On the homefront; we're once again shoveling out the waist deep mess in Z's room! This time, L and I will organize his room. Once the room is clean, we've told Z that we will be total Nazis about ANY clutter! I realize that Z's room is his space, but with his ADD related lack of organizational skills, we must stay on top of the situation. The current state of his room is sinking Z into depression.

We're hoping that our lives will settle into a semi-normal routine before summer arrives. I can HOPE, can't I?

Sounds like fun. I have a partial post on my blog about K. She has learned to ride her bike with out training wheels finally. She is too short for the one we bought her for her b-day so we have to buy one more bike in between but that is ok because B will need it when she gets old eough. Well talk later. Hope things improve soon. No snow here. Just lots of rain and sunshine.

Oh man, Tshsmom! Here is hoping that spring brings you MUCH better luck, dishwashers and wait staff.

Wish we lived closer!!

(((((((((hugs)))))))))

Tweets, K's doing GREAT for her age!
We had to force SME to learn to ride a bike in 2nd grade!

Bridg, I wished we lived closer too.
Then L and I could fix your toilets! ;)

Oh she is doing great. I just apologized to jay for posting so many pix of my girls and she said she likes seeing them. So that makes me happy. I love my girls and I am a very proud parent. i wasnt sure if K was going to catch on to the riding as quick as she did. So proud of her. We have some very severe weather tonight so i am leary. Scared more like it. I hate storms.

Perhaps if you "re-set" Z's room, he'll have an easier time to keep it that way. After all, tackling a huge problem like that would overwhelm anyone.

Ahhhh, we have the same room situation here. And mui back is broken - I am calling a cleaning lady to help - she will probably scream and run.

I will post some beach pics for you as soon as I can figure out how to get my camera out of record mode which my grandson somehow engineered -

I've noticed workers that are skilled in anything and willing to work and stay are rare. Good luck.

Just popping in for a second. Wow! Busy, busy, busy! Hopefully you'll find some really cool person, who is a good worker, reliable and a helluva lot of fun to work with. Wishing you the best in the co-worker dept. and the coming Spring. We're supposed to hit 78 tomorrow. Lotta good that does me at the office and in meetings until 9 p.m. *sigh*

Sonja, I employed a labeled bin system in Z's room a while back. His biggest problem is dumping out the bins, to find something, and not picking it up again. :(
Then there's the normal teen problems of not putting his clothes in the hamper, and not bringing the dirty dishes out of his room until we run out of dishes in the kitchen.

Gardenia, have your grandson reset your camera. Kids are usually better at that stuff than we are. ;)
Reliable workers ARE extremely rare! The 20-something workers we've been getting just work until they get a paycheck, then they're out partying.

Hiya VV!! The dishwasher we have now is fun to be around. Unfortunately, the poor kid is having a rough time with morning sickness. I really hope she sticks it out with us!
It's been 55F here, but it's supposed to snow this weekend.

no more snow thank you very much

Fingers crossed with the new dishwasher! I still believe, against all evidence to the contrary, that there has to be at least one decent dishwasher lurking around there somewhere. Hopefully this is the one.

Since your last waitress worked in a peeler bar and a Hooter's, maybe she just felt weird having to wear clothes to work. ;D

At 3/27/2007 11:29 AM, Blogger tweetey30 said...

Oh boy. She would feel at home here in G.B. We have a Hooters some where here in town. I have never been nor will go to one.

But if she doesnt mind a suggestion for her morning sickness and she is more than likely getting lots of advice dry cereal for me worked. Even if she has to bring it to work with her. I liked dry Kix with K but I felt ok with B and got sick half way through the day with B. It was just plain weird. OH well it happens. Well enough of being sick.

Sorry about the work situation. You get a lot of fly-by-night types in the restaurant business. But you know that.

mister A, my vote's with rain too. ;)

SME, I really enjoy this girl's personality. I hope she lasts!
I think "Hooters'" problem was that Daddy and Grandma are still paying her way.

Tweets, I think her main problem is that she's eating too much at one time. I keep telling her to eat a lot of tiny meals. She also keeps drinking milk, even though she gets sick as soon as she drinks it. I told her to try yogurt, ice cream, or any other dairy product that she can keep down.
I feel so sorry for her. I was lucky; I never had morning sickness with either of our kids.

Squirl, up until now we've been very lucky in that respect. We've always had a great group of hard workers.

Sorry about that ZF!! :(
I think he went after you because he doesn't want to admit that men visit here. Like you said, he can't live forever. ;)

Wow, you have a lot going on. Sometimes I feel like posting about more work issues, but if I do the floodgate will open and all hell will spill forth. So I'd better keep it zipped. :-P

J had a hard time yesterday again and hes talking about switching jobs. I feel so sorry for him. I mean they were asking him to stop here and there to pick up stuff. I mean I know that is part of being a driver but they werent being real nice about it I guess. I feel for him. Its hard having him gone as long as he is but if he would just find something that would make him happy it would be better. J might have gotten me to babysit for the new guy they hired. He has a four year old and new one on the way. She wants to go back to work after the new one gets here. And they need a babysitter.

Notta, I often find it's therapeutic to vent. ;)

Bridg, you NEED the outlet of venting on your blog. You'd implode if you didn't vent!

Tweets, GO FOR IT!! Babysitting is a great way to make some extra money. I always babysat when SME was little, before I went back to a "regular" job.

Thanks Hannah!
It started raining here yesterday. It's supposed to snow this weekend. :(

Jay, LOL! Quite often, a LOT of counting is involved. Two years ago, we had 8 snows after the gulls arrived.

Tweets, you LIVED here and never heard that? It's in the paper EVERY year!

At 3/31/2007 10:15 AM, Blogger tweetey30 said...

I have to admit I never read the paper living there. LOL.. Bad N. Very Bad N. LOL...So no I had never heard that one. Sorry.

I know - I need to vent too. I just get a little nervous because my job is confidential. I try to post things about work that no one would figure out it was me. I didn't mean to imply that venting was bad - I'm all in favor of it. I just can't do more of it for certain reasons.

At 4/01/2007 1:57 PM, Blogger tshsmom said...

Yes, you are a very bad N! ;)
See what you missed out on by not reading the paper?
Actually, we only get the paper to keep up on local issues...and the grocery ads.

Notta, I know you vent. ;)
I was hoping that you didn't feel guilty about venting, as those posts have been quite informative.
You do have to walk a tightrope regarding privacy issues. :(

Tshsmom, sounds like your job is making the rounds of new employees. When I worked at the vet's office, we would go through this cycle where we had the best team ever than a person would leave and we went through at least four people before we got to the right one. Some of our new hires ended up being drug addicts, drunks, flakes, immature kids or just incapable of working with people. It was amazing because all of these people interviewed well and looked normal until we worked with them. Good luck on finding the perfect person at work and I am praying for no more snow up there.

GWB, it's hard enough trying to organize a new house. With ADD it's 10X harder! After awhile the whole thing is just overwhelming.
If I had the time, we'd come and help you out!

Angelique, that's EXACTLY what we're going through!! We HAD such a super crew, now we're sifting through the dregs. :(

Sorry you're slogging through this, Tshsmom. Here's hoping that things including the weather clear up right away for you, and that you get a loooooong stretch of super crews, great clients and nice weather.

I have an important question from anyone who can answer this question. Well alright its important to K. She got her first Girl Scout Badge yesterday. I need to make a sash like thing for her. Any suggestions on how to do so? Or if some one can do it for me I will pay the postage to have it mailed to me. I dont want to sew her badge to clothes that wont fit in six months. I want her to remember this for ever. Hopefully Bri will get the same chance. But thanks for the help if you can. Tweets.

At 4/03/2007 6:32 PM, Blogger tshsmom said...

Bridg, I don't think you and I would know what to do if thinks went smoothly at work. ;)

Tweets, is K a Daisy or a Brownie? If she's a Daisy, I wouldn't worry about it. Next year she'll be a Brownie, with a totally different uniform.
If she's a Brownie, you can buy a sash for $4.75. Penny's used to sell Scout uniforms and accessories. If not, you can order the sash online.
Sometimes Scout troops have uniform exchanges. You could ask K's leader about that.

Vest, BRING IT ON!! My husband and son would LOVE to have a few words with you!

Z is a smart kid. Firefox is all I use. At work, I'm stuck with Windoze XP. At home, it's Macs and Linux. Firefox only.

She isnt a real scout. Its through her Y program and it was free. I am thinking about putting her in real girl scouts next year.

ZS, L resisted the idea at first. It's one of those "pissing contest" things between teenaged sons and their Dads. NOW L loves Firefox and is sooo proud of the way Z had researched this.

Tweets, maybe you could crochet a sash for her. How do the other girls display their badges?
