Technical Difficulties

I've been without a computer since Wednesday. The video card in L's new computer died a quiet death and quit delivering pictures to the monitor. The computer is still under warranty and Alienware is sending us a new video card via FedEx. In the meantime, Z has generously allowed us to move his computer into our world. This means that for the next 5-7 working days, we will be dividing computer time between the 3 of us.

I'm not overly confident that FedEx will be able to negotiate the snow-clogged roads, that are separating us from the rest of the world, in a timely manner. All the major highways, south of us, have been shut down for the past 2 days.
The photo above (courtesy of the Duluth News Tribune), is of the Park Point area of Duluth. Duluth got socked with an additional 19 inches of snow, in addition to the 18 inches they received last weekend! This time, the snow was accompanied by 60+ mph winds AND thunder and lightning! What a mess!
Our area was on the edge of this massive storm system. We only received about 6 inches of snow over the last 2 weeks. We actually could have used SOME of the snow our southern neighbors received. We've only used our snowblower twice this season. Our area is STILL in the throes of a severe draught.

Holy Hannah Tshsmom! Wonder if the storms that our towns had were related?

Best wishes and stay warm.....

Wow. I was thinking taht was back home when I first saw it. LOL.. Well hope you are warm and get your computer up and running again soon. I know how it sucks that we dont have a computer. We have two of them now so hopefully we wont have any problems. Ones not internet access yet but maybe sometime.

SB, yup, same storm system. This system is also the same one that hit Gardenia in FLORIDA! Freaky, eh?

Tweets, L just found out that we can't install anything on this computer. Z has everything password protected, and we're only logged into a "guest user" space on his hard drive. What a little shit!

Hmmm. No snow problems over here (what a surprise!), but windy and ice on my car yesterday morning. Nonetheless, it's sunny enough for me to go out an keep digging up my yard for the vegetable garden I have in mind. Stay warm!

Uh, yeah, that looks like our place. Sheesh. We're supposed to get a warming trend over the weekend, but I'm concerned about where all the water from the melting is going to go. My stuff is in the basement and I have these visions of a river running through there.

Euro, shut up, shut up shut up! ;)
We WERE planning on doing some landscaping this summer. If the drought conditions continue, we'll have to postpone those plans. :(

WC, after seeing your pics, I'd be more worried about the windows leaking!
I think your yard has enough slope to run the water away from the basement. *crossing fingers*

Yeah, but it's an above ground basement. They've said it's never leaked before, though, so I hope they're right. I worry about the windows BREAKING from all the pressure!

Heehee, you're guest users. ;P

Talk about "it was a dark and stormy night"! I kinda wish I'd been in Duluth. I bet the kids got snow days off of school.

I giggled my butt off about Z setting you up with a 'guest user' space on his HD.

:) That's funny, about Z password protecting his machine. Go Z!

Re: the storm... Here in Chicago, I feel like it's been intermittently storming off and on for a month. Yesterday and today it was as if someone was shaking a snowglobe: it would get cloudy and windy and some snow would swirl around, then it would get sunny. Then it would start all over again. For the first time in a long time -- I can't wait for spring! But we didn't get it nearly as badly as the poor sap snowed into his house in that photo!

Wow, the snow, the winds, the thunder, the drought, wow. I probably shouldn't say this, but we had freakish weather today too. 68 degrees and sunny. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the 30s again. Go figure.

WC, I'd worry about the windows breaking too.

SME, it gets worse! Z's title, on his computer, is "The Almighty Admin"!

Courtney, the kids in Duluth looked like they were having a ball in all that snow!

Z's screensaver freaked me out, the first time I saw it. It's the "bluescreen of death", with an error message of: ERROR 89437: USER IS A DUMBASS!

~r, Z's justifiably proud of his computer skills. My lack of skills tends to frustrate him.

Back in December and January, everybody was celebrating our mild winter. I warned them that we'd get all our snow in March, when we'd be looking forward to Spring!
WHY am I always right about the wrong things?

Thanks Hannah! We got ALL our cold weather in February. EVERY night it was at least -20F! Right now +25F feels like a balmy Spring day. ;)

VV, you guys were part of the same storm system as we were. Hopefully you're sending that warm weather up here too. The 30F weather you'll get is coming directly from us...sorry about that! ;)
Did you finally get internet access at home? It's nice to see you around on the weekend!

Its about that here in the 30's. No more snow from what I am hearing for the time being. Hope it gets a little warmer soon. I am looking forward to the fifties myself. Not saying I want the ninety degree stuff we get here but the fifties and sixties are good. Then we wont have to turn on our AC for a while. LOL... Well catch you all later. Tweets

I'm with you Tweets! I like my weather below the 70F mark.

"Almighty Admin". Heh heh heh. Wonder where gets that smartass attitude...I can't imagine...

SME, bad genes....on BOTH sides of the family! OR, I could blame his SISTER! ;)

That sounds like a good deal. Blame the big sister at all times for anything and everything. LOL...

Yep, finally a new computer and back to high speed access from home. Now if I could just have more time "at home" I'd be a little happier. I promise not to over-schedule myself to this degree again. Hopefully someone will hold me to that promise. I just turned down a fairly nice political post in our community because it would entail me meeting with folks every Tuesday night. I'm already working all day at the first job, then a couple hours at night teaching. I would have had to go directly to the political meeting and not see my family at any point on Tuesdays. I couldn't do that. There will be other opportunities.

Yikes - shiver, brrrrr. Will winter ever be over with? That photo reminds me of one year in Wyoming - the two story house across the street was covered with snow - they lost a car in the driveway until spring thaw. We had to hire bulldozers to clean our driveways.

Thanks, Z for sharing the computer - we would miss your Mom bunches if we didn't hear from her till the roads cleared. They've been shut most of the winter in Wyo.

Yes I have to agree Z. We all would miss your mom terribly if she hadnt been able to use your computer. But why all the passwords though???? Well I suppose. Again its beautiful out today. I noticed our drive way that was covered in ice on Saturday is starting to melt today. So maybe a thaw is on the way. I want to just throw open the windows and have some fresh air in the house.

VV, you're right! As tempting as the offer was, family comes first!

AWWWW, thanks Gardenia and Tweets! I'd miss you too!

Yeah, thanks, Z! Or should I say Almighty Admin?
;)

Snow, we've had plenty lately, too. But, we've been more on the droughtish side, too. I suppose we could use it.

I thought that maybe you could remind Z who pays for the electricity that runs the computer. ;-)

Then I read his "blue screen" error. I did an LOL. :-D

wish I could figure out a way to send you some of OUR snow.. we've had plenty!

It's not my fault about the passwords! Windows insists! Oh, and if anyone wants to know how to make a BSOD Screen-saver, it is my next blog post.

Squirl, getting Z to share his computer was easy. He doesn't have internet access in his room, so he either moved his computer or no internet.

GWB, we'd take it. Our lake was 3 ft low last fall. We need a LOT of moisture to bring it back up! :(

Z, you LOVE the power, and you know it! ;)

I'm in sweats right now. So is Mrs. Z. It's hot outside and I'll be driving with the windows down.

What's that white stuff that's covering everything? Shaving cream? why is that one house covered with shaving cream?

(just kidding, I've lived in Illinois and Wisconsin too.

ZS, we only got 6" total here, so it wasn't too bad. The little bit of snow that we have won't be lasting long as it was 40F today.
