Several months ago, I was looking through's selection of TV series on DVD, when I came across the following selection. I couldn't believe my eyes! This was TOO GOOD to be true! It was. The DVD hadn't been released yet, and didn't have a release date listed. Good old Amazon did promise to email me when this DVD was available. Yeah right; good luck with that Amazon. They haven't released this show in 36 years, why would they do it now?

Imagine my surprise when I checked my email Saturday morning and found a link to this series!! YES!!

"The first season set includes the pilot movie plus the first 14 episodes of the show (the show was a mid-season replacement which is why it doesn't have a full season of 22-24 episodes). While clearly inspired by "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" the series achieves its own quirky tone by the first regular season episode. Duel and Murphy's charm and chemistry on camera is immediately evident. 30 plus years later the show still retains its charm."
Alias Smith & Jones is my favorite TV show EVER! I LOVE westerns and Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid is my favorite movie. If you liked Butch Cassidy, you'll like Smith & Jones. There's eye-candy, in the form of the late Pete Duel and Ben Murphy. There's witty dialogue, good plots, and a stellar supporting cast, including Burl Ives, Walter Brennan, Caeser Romero, Sally Field, Michelle Lee, Rudy Vallee, Earl Holliman, and many others.
In 3-5 days I will be spending my afternoons watching my blast from the past, while I'm doing my daily chores. There may be a lapse in blogging at this time.....but you'll understand.....right?

Of course we will. Have you heard anything about the part for your computer where Z can have his back?

This show seems vaguely familiar but I don't think I watched it

I was absolutely hooked on that show, I LOVED Pete Duel, he was one of my high school dream guys!!! I have the pilot of it on video. I watched every single episode, even after Pete Duel was replaced after....well, I'll bet you already know what happened to him. I hate to even think about it.

Anyway, I see why destiny had our paths cross! SO MUCH IN COMMON - from lifestyles, to beagles, to ALIAS SMITH AND JONES!! I thought I was the only one alive who even knew about that series, let alone was a die hard fan.

I am going to Amazon right now - I'll no doubt be lapsing in blog time, too, but I'll be thinking of you.

This is hilarious! Thanks for the tip! Made my day!

Just ordered it from Amazon.

My girls will go crazy over this.

I'm going to bed now.....smiling.

I actually have a vague recollection of this series. I don't believe I ever watched more than just a snippet of any episode, but I definitely remember the name and Ben Murphy being in it. Definite eye candy!

I have never even heard of that show. Am I that out of touch, or maybe I am far too young?

that was the best show on TV in it's time Had Pete Duel not committed suicide, this show would have gone on to be an all time classic.

The show was never the same without Duel. Duel and Murphy had this great stage chemistry. That is pretty much unreproducable.

What a great old show that I'd completely forgotten. Aren't DVD's awesome?

Tweets, it SHOULD be delivered today.

Jeannie, unless you were able to get American channels, I doubt if you saw it. It didn't run on CBC.

Thanks Monica!

Cherie, this is just TOO WEIRD!!
I have the pilot on VHS too.
My 2 best friends and I actually audio taped the shows on cassette, so we could memorize all the lines.
Ben was my dream guy, but I wound up marrying a guy that looks a lot like Pete.(I never really noticed the similarity until yesterday.)

I hope your daughters understand our obsession. My kids think I'm crazy, as you can see by their comments below. ;)

Maybe if enough of us buy season 1, they'll put out the other season and a half? *crossing fingers*

VV, yeah, you were probably too young to really get into it.

ZF, too young and it didn't run on CBC.

GWB, I figured you'd be a fan too. Gotta love those westerns! You're right, Roger Davis just didn't click. I think he was a bit too clean-cut.

Hannah, you're WAY too young to remember it! I NEVER thought I'd be able to immerse myself in this pleasure again. ;)

Thanks Gardenia! I'd better check our popcorn supply.

Shawn, outing myself was such a freeing experience! ;)

SME, I've often wondered that myself. WHY don't my kids like westerns?!

Jason, I KNOW!!
I had a heyday when music CDs came out. They re-released a LOT of the albums I couldn't afford when I was a kid.

36 years ago? I was a ripe old age of two. I don't remember it at all including reruns. I'm glad it makes you happy. :)

Toby, that's why I was so surprised that they released it!
You'll notice that it's only us "old folks" here, that fondly remember this show. Cherie and I will be feeling a whole lot younger, when our DVDs arrive in the mail! I'm 51-going-on-15. ;)

I do remember that the show was on. I'm kinda surprised I never watched it.

But I'm excited for you that you'll be able to enjoy it again after all these years. Have fun!

I really shouldn't give ya a hard time. If "Then Came Bronson" ever comes out in a complete set, Richard will be tormenting me with late '60s-early '70s TV.

Never heard of it, but I was probably just a sparkle in my mother's eye when that show came out.

SME - If richard gets Bronson on dvd, expect a visit from a stranger with Indiana plates.

Squirl, I'm surprised you didn't watch it too. Great eye-candy!

ZS, you're not THAT young! ;)

GWB, you'll have to make your trip coincide with the Stanley Cup so R has someone to watch hockey AND Bronson with. ;)
I would watch Bronson with you guys though.
