Where Did February Go?!

The battle to get a decent internet connection into our house continues. We had a week, this month, where we couldn't stay connected for longer than 5 minutes! Tech support remotely tested our modem and decided a new modem would fix our problem. It did...for 2 days. We are no longer losing connection, but our speed is rarely above dial-up speed. Every time we call tech support, the DSL speeds up. This is just like having your car quit making that funny noise the minute you pull it into your mechanic's garage.

Sooo, what have I been doing with the time that I normally spend blogging?

We've made 5 trips to the dentist, 2 for Z and 3 for me. I've been without my bottom partial since November, when the tooth that the partial connects to broke in half. This meant that I could only chew with my front teeth....all through the holiday season. We finally got in with a new dentist, after our dentist retired, but it took 2 months to get an appointment.

I made 2 trips to the doctor. One visit to our GP, and one visit to a bone specialist. My shoulders have really been bothering me this winter. I feared rotator cuff damage. I was diagnosed with bursitis, and got a regimen of exercises to strengthen my shoulder muscles. The specialist said that I will probably need shoulder surgery in the distant future. That ain't gonna happen! I can't afford to take 6 months off from work.

I've been playing with my new camera, trying to learn all the settings. No new photos worth posting though. I really want to get a decent hummingbird shot this summer!

I've been puttering with all the electronic gadgets we have, that I haven't quite mastered yet. I finally figured out the slide scanner that L got me for Christmas several years ago! I'll post more on that activity later. I still want to convert more of my vinyl to CDs, so I can rip some more music to my MP3 player. I like to listen to my music while I'm working on our outdoor projects. I also need to finish reading the manual for the new phone we bought 10 months ago! I still don't know how to clear missed calls, or retrieve the caller-ID information.

Re-establishing communications with my husband. We've spent so many years working opposing shifts, that we've become strangers. We forget to take time to have fun with each other. The past few years, we've spent all of our limited together time discussing chores, home-improvement projects, and family problems. We didn't realize what a drag that has been...time for some FUN!

My favorite cousin, J, came up with her son and his family for a vintage snowmobile event.
A friend, who now lives in CO, came home for a visit. We spent a whole afternoon catching up and viewing all the pictures she's taken in the past 2 years. She also shared her infant grandson with me. What FUN it was to play with a baby again!

Facebook; what a mixed blessing! I found that my high-school friends had FINALLY advanced to the social networking age. Not one of them was connected when I got my first FB page a couple of years ago. I'm now re-connected with my bestest friends for the first time in 5 years! We've spent a lot of time emailing to catch up with each other's lives. I found that I can keep up with most of my friends through my FB homepage. This means I only have to load one page with our slow connection. The downside is that I'll have to wait until our connection gets fixed before I can view any of their pictures. Pictures and videos take FOREVER to load!

Well, that's what I've been up to in February. I hope to get my sewing machine out in March, so I can sew the new kitchen curtains...and catch up on the mending. I'll try to catch up with all of your blogs during our short bursts of decent internet speed.

So good to see a post from you again. I hope the internet issue is resolved soon. I imagine there will be plenty of your photos I will want to see.

Tweets, done!

VV, I dunno, they've been working on it for 9 months now. Now the linemen say that "maybe" they'll have to replace some equipment on our pole this summer. That's a long way off!

Well, definitely a busy time for you, as it has been over here, too. I hope you get your internet issues sorted out ASAP because I know how annoying that is. Glad to hear that FB is working out for you...I'm using it a bit more these days, mainly out of boredom.

Sounds like life has become a little less stressed for you there. My internet connection is often slow - but I think it's my computer to some extent.

I have only found a couple of of old friends on FB. Mind you, I don't know their last names now but I can't find any of the guys either. I find that kind of strange.

WC, you've got a LOT on your plate this month! I wish I could drive our truck out there to help you move.

Jeannie, try adding your maiden name to your FB name. This will help old friends find you.
Most guys our age don't seem to join FB. Just a few of my male classmates are on there, but keep trying, more are joining all the time.

February can suck it!! It's my least favorite month of the year. The weather stinks, there's nothing to do... bleh.

Looking forward to new photos once you get a few shots you want to post. Be careful with that shoulder too.

February did go by fast. That sucks about your internet connection. The drawback of living in a small town, but then again, you're a heck of a lot more likely to survive when the zombie plague starts. We're going to have every yuppie and their grandma over here begging for food because nobody else is prepared for even a simple earthquake.

I love FB. Probably too much. Don't game on it but can keep in touch with friends and family that are out of state, which is great.

Good luck with the dentist. We finally got a good dentist that we can't see any more because we no longer have dental insurance. He's expensive, but does everything once and he does it right. And he puts up with my fear of needles (I had a panic attack in his office).

Good luck with your shoulder as well. Stretch. that's probably the best thing you can do.

Geez, getting older, you just fall apart. I'm starting to hurt in place I didn't know I had.

So sorry about your internet - that is extremely frustrating!!!
Delighted to hear you and your hubby going to have some fun - we too have progressed from grim cohabitation to something that approximates a bit of fun now and then. Its worth cultivating. But it do take two to tango!
Electronics - ai yi - like you I have a million things to work on with them...and have only delved part way in. I am re-aquanting, trying to locate old software, get everything up to par for a future web job - I have so many passwords, I have a thick notebook to keep track of them.

I hate February too, Laura! That's why I was so surprised that this one went fast.
Maybe the new camera brought me out of my cocoon?

ZS, LOL! That's what I say about our internet connection all the time. "That's what we get for living at the edge of the universe!" We only have 2 options for internet, and they both suck in our neighborhood. :(

I've been loving your pictures on FB. You were such a cute little kid, not that you're not cute now. I love the height difference between you and Mrs. Z...just like L and I! You're the only other couple I know like that. I don't feel so "different" now. ;)

I don't care for most of the games on FB, but I'm addicted to Scrabble and Bejeweled Blitz. My girlfriends and I have a killer Bejeweled competition going on. Z thinks we're a bunch of hilarious "old ladies".

I hear ya on the dentist! We want to get Z's teeth to 100% before he turns 18. IF he's eligible for MNCARE, after he turns 18, he'll have to start paying a 50% copay.

This growing older stuff SUCKS! I'm starting to pay for all the stupid stuff I did to my body when I was a kid. The Dr. wanted to give me cortisone shots and meds, but I told him I'd stick with the exercises.

Gardenia, I think you and I are FINALLY starting to harvest the fruits of our labors. It's been an uphill battle, but we're too stubborn to give in, aren't we?

Crazy wild February for you, that's for sure. Can't even imagine eating holiday food with only upper teeth. You are a marvel!

Glad there's some good news in there, too.

Fun! Yes, make time for it. Lots and lots of fun! Good for everyone all the way around.

I am glad feb is over. As for Facebook - yes, that is decidedly a mixed blessing. It is fascinating to see what people have done with their lives since way back when.
