What Drought?
This picture was taken in our back yard this afternoon. It's been raining, off and on, all week. Yesterday, we got DUMPED ON!! We're lucky that we didn't get any of the hail, strong winds, or tornadoes that much of the upper midwest received.
The fire danger here is finally down, but we're still 7 inches below normal precipitation levels. We need to get an extra inch of precip, every month for the rest of the year, to get back to normal.
I guess we won't be doing any yard work this weekend. That's OK, we'll work in the garage instead. Z and I just returned from Menards, where we bought 12 more sheets of OSB for the garage ceiling. I don't think we'll be able to complete the whole ceiling this weekend, but we'll give it a try!

It gives you a head start. That sucks you are below on the precip. I know we are too but no idea how much really.
Looks like a nice swimmin' hole!
Good luck on the garage work. We are painting kitchen, dining room, living room this weekend. School's done. (wooo-hooo!) We are prepping the house to put on the market soon.
Tweets, we both lucked out with this storm system! ;)
Monica, I hate prepping a house for sale! All that free labor, and someone else reaps the rewards. :(
Hopefully, someone else is putting the same effort into YOUR future home!
That's the weird the weather you suddenly got. The weather has been all messed up lately, global warming is starring us straight in our faces. Good luck with the renovations.
It's been dry here. I am sure we'll have drought and fires in CA. Even though we're dry in Silicon Valley, it seems like LA area has all the fires. I'm glad you guys didn't get the tornadoes.
LC, it is weird. The last drought we had, of this magnitude, was in 1976! Wet, is the normal condition here.
Notta, CA never seems to have a happy medium. It's either fires or mudslides. :(
Add some carp and a few lily pads, and it could be quite pretty! ;D
It's far too dry here again. We haven't had anything more than spitting rain for a few weeks.
When I moved to MT in 2003, MT was in the middle of a seven year drought (that year I would have believed it). Every year I hear, "we need the snow, we're in the middle of a seven year drought, doncha know." Since 2004 MT has had above average precips. Seven year drought my ass! But still I hear it... Every. Stinkin'. Year!
Hope you don't drown out there!
(by the way, my word verification is 'crzyi'. Rather fitting.)
We've been getting dumped on, too, with hail storms now and again. Summer - then heavy rains - then summer - then heavy rains....you get the idea.
I was going to say koi, but maybe SME knows better - carp.
How's the garage coming? The kitchen is getting there - s l o w l y. Had an unexpected houseguest for half a week. Life happens! :-)
Same here it's been raining constantly for 2 months
SME, don't encourage your Dad! You know he's always wanted a water feature. ;)
Courtney, we visited my friend, near Bozeman, in 2001. It was DRY!
Wet is normal here. Our county is 80% swamp. I just hope that we don't get too much rain. One year we got so much that my parents' wooden sidewalk was floating! :(
Cherie, I think koi are Japanese carp.
The garage is going like your kitchen. Yesterday we finished the rest of the attic, which allowed us to stow away Christmas decorations that have been taking up floor space all winter.
Today will be more up and down the ladders, screwing in sheets over our heads...BLECH!
Hammer, isn't that unusual for Texas?
You must have left your comment while I was commenting at your place. ;)
I just saw a map on internet - looks like the whole country is drier than usually for the most part. We are unusually "muggy" down here for June - it feels more like late July, Aug, & September - it finally rained yesterday - we have a - what do they call a window in the roof - and I love a gray day with the sound of the rain........hubby tried to mow - too hot & humid - he came in feeling like passing out. I AGAIN explained its not good to work outside at noon in the summer, and the lawn really can be mowed in segments. We're getting to the age, we need to hire it done, but who has the bucks? Just went to the grocery store yesterday. Am arranging my cravings to coordinate with sales.
Well if I could send you some of our water - we're having severe flooding in our province right now - I totally would. And I'm sure there's lots of others in BC who would gladly do the same.
Here it's either an oven or rainstorming like crazy. Yesterday we had one that was downright tropical.
So koi are Japanese carp....the things you teach me.
Drought, fires, floods, hail, winds, tornadoes -- we are having quite a weird and stormy season around here, aren't we? Glad you didn't get the tornadoes. Bet Z is glad too!
Hey, when you're done with your garage, mine needs some attention too. And I can guarantee you won't have any issues with skunks, bats maybe, but not skunks.
Do you guys ever get to rest and enjoy your place? Hope you get the proper amount of precip this year.
Gardenia, it got hot and muggy here last weekend too. We didn't pick a good weekend to work in the attic of our garage. :(
WC, no thanks, we've got PLENTY for now! ;)
Bridg, I like to share. I've been sending you our storm systems, after they get done dumping on us. :0
Cherie, my brain is full of a LOT of useless facts! I have NO IDEA how or why I knew about koi.
Pam, I think the only thing MN hasn't had in recent weeks, is an earthquake.
VV, we were counting on you and M coming HERE to help us with the garage, after you got all that great Habitat experience! BTW, we LOVE bats!
Squirl, hopefully we'll be able to enjoy the garage for the rest of our lives....once we get it finished. We're not the fastest workers, but we work cheap. ;)
